Moises Caicedo decided to move from Brighton & Hove Albion to Chelsea in August 2023. One question that came was how he would be able to live up to all the expectations. He was moving from a small club to a big one. Another question was where Caicedo choice is going to be among the big clubs as Arsenal was one of the suitors. But Caicedo chose Chelsea.
Moises Caicedo Move to Chelsea
He confessed that Chelsea “had always been with me,” which meant they were the ones who believed in him the most during the whole time. That backing only — together with his own dreams — was the reason he made his decision. To put it simply: to him, the interest from Chelsea was the most real and the most constant one.
It is, of course, a change that comes with some pressure leaving Brighton for Chelsea, i.e. a place where you are comfortable, for a club like the Blues. The huge transfer fee and high expectations have been bothering him from the very beginning. But Caicedo was able to sort it out with humility. He confessed that the beginning was difficult but later on he had more and more self-belief: he worked out his skills, was strong in his mind and took the support of the coaches and staff.
Moises Caicedo Speaks of Present Day
As a matter of fact, Caicedo looks like a PC player at the moment, 2025–26 season, if we are to judge by his performance. He gets on well with his current tactician Enzo Maresca, who sees in him the drive, the warrior spirit, and the attitude to no matter what fight for the team. Caicedo himself stated that Chelsea are going to fight for trophies and that the team is not going to rush the season but rather take it “one step at a time”.
All factors considered, it would be logical to assume that Caicedo (or people close to him like supporters and press) feels courageous enough to utter aloud such a statement as: “Arsenal are doing really well, but the fact is that they haven’t played us yet”. The statement is not arrogant. In fact, it reflects more a kind of modest confidence. It’s that feeling of a team discovering its personality and a player having faith in his and his new club’s future.
Reasons why this feeling is justified now:
Arsenal are playing a good season and they are the main theme of conversation of the day in London. Really, they have not dropped a single point for the last few weeks and appear to be the biggest threat to the league title.
Chelsea however under Maresca have formed a team of value. pl
Players like Caicedo in the middle they are getting better very fast.
For Caicedo, signing for Chelsea was not just about the money or fame. It was about opening up opportunities.
Truth be told
Confidence and preparations are not enough to secure a victory. Performance, form and results are quite different matters. Earlier this season, at the Emirates, Chelsea lost to Arsenal. He pointed out that the team should focus on character, hard work and faith.
In some senses, therefore, this “we haven’t played them yet” expression is even more convincing due to the honesty of the player and the club which show that they are conscious of their weaknesses but at the same time they know their potential. It is not without grounds – it is cautious ambition.
Author’s Insight
It demonstrates the factors that he prioritizes, comfort, encouragement and challenge. It also shows that he is more of a believer in growth rather than glamour. Chelsea are setting their targets high. The quiet faith – the trust that “perhaps we could be the ones to really test Arsenal when the time comes” – not only be about a game. It might be about a whole season.
