Chelsea anticipate comeback of Lavia and Santos

Chelsea FC

Chelsea might receive a welcome boost within the near future. Two injured midfielders, Romeo Lavia and Andrey Santos, could both potentially be back in time to play against Nottingham Forest. In the meantime, Benoit Badiashile also continues to make positive strides towards recovery.

Chelsea Injury News

Lavia has been sidelined with a muscle problem but was back in training with the team recently. He participated in training, reports indicate, and is closely monitored. His phased return gives hope that he can play again soon, possibly even before or by the time Chelsea welcome Nottingham Forest to Stamford Bridge.

Santos, though, has a longer journey. He got injured in the Brighton match and was unavailable for the Liverpool game and more.  The boss indicated that Santos should be out until after the international break.  That timing proposes that he may only return to full fitness in the window following that break, which might see him available for the Forest game or shortly thereafter.

Regarding Badiashile, things are better. He picked up a muscle injury during the Club World Cup. He has since rejoined the first team. The defender even started the full match during the recent Champions League match against Benfica.

He conceded he was a bit exhausted afterwards but enjoyed the experience of being back.

The Squad Situation

With other defenders (like Levi Colwill and Wesley Fofana) out, his return provides respite at the back.  At least one report indicates that he will have to begin again soon with thin defensive options.

Nevertheless, care is necessary. Lavia’s return is unlikely to be immediate, and Santos will take further time to heal completely. Badiashile, following a few months absent, will also have to pace minutes.

Author’s Insight

The Chelsea injury situation is still precarious, but these updates at least provide some reason for optimism in the direction of the Forest match.
