Probably one of the world’s best attacking midfielders at one-point last season, and the league’s hottest talents last season, Cole Palmer’s injury surely put Chelsea ten steps back in their progress. As they slowly figure out their best squad and a stable core, Enzo Maresca has announced the bad news that Cole Palmer and his return dates from his injury will be longer than expected. As the 23-year-old was already suffering a setback through an existing injury and was healing from it, manager Enzo has shared the news about Palmer fracturing his toe at his home, which extends his return dates.
CHELSEA FANS DEVASTATED BY RETURN DATES NEWS
The ardent blue part of London and the Chelsea faithful were more than eager to witness their star boy Palmer, make a return. Especially in two of their biggest fixtures this season, one against Spanish giants Barcelona in the Champions League, and then a Premier League mega fixture against league leaders Arsenal. Now, to their devastation and disappointment, Enzo Maresca has ruled out the possibility of Palmer taking part in both fixtures with the news of Cole Palmer’s return dates. That is truly going to be a difficult pill to swallow for the fans, as it clearly looked like Palmer’s return was very much confirmed for both fixtures. The extension of the sidelining comes through a rather peculiar injury. The news is that Palmer fractured his toe at his home because of an unfortunate accident.
WHAT DOES COLE PALMER’S RETURN DATES MEAN TO CHELSEA?
As discussed above, Palmer’s absence is undoubtedly super difficult for Chelsea to handle. The aspects he adds to the attack, the goals and assists he brings to the team, and simply his presence itself adds so much to the team. Yet, despite all of this, Chelsea have somehow produced some great results in the Premier League. Actually, they’ve done way better than the last couple of seasons, in which Palmer was leading the way upfront. The results and good form have been reflected on the Premier League table glaringly, as they very comfortably sit at second place, only behind league leaders Arsenal. They have achieved this solely because of their squad development, and how contributions have come from various parts of the squad. Most notable contributors are Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto, and Enzo Fernandes.
STAN COLLYMORE ABOUT COLE PALMER’S INJURY AND HIS RETURN DATES
Stan Collymore, as some would know, is a former Chelsea midfielder, and he has shared his worrying opinion about Palmer’s toe fracture. โSo when I saw the news about a couple of hours ago, itโs like Cole Palmer fractures toe, stubbing it on the door. Itโs always one of those that people go, ah, crikey, bit of a laugh, bit of a joke. But his bone, as a matter of fact, will not heal for six weeks. So letโs say all the swelling goes down, but itโs going to take six weeks. Thereโs no way theyโre going to have him checking and turning on it.โ Collymore said when he appeared on talkSPORT.
Collymore’s comments are surely only going to further worry the already worried Chelsea fans. He went on to talk about how this injury wouldn’t just be a minor one, as it would take a lot more time to completely heal.
THE AUTHOR’S OPINION
I can completely fit myself into the shoes of the millions of Chelsea faithful, who continue to sulk about this news. Losing your star man, star boy, and pretty much your club’s poster boy to continued injury problems is extremely difficult and painful. But, looking at the bright side, this season has been fantabulous so far for Chelsea. The fact that they sit comfortably at second, without their star player, is a glorious sign of progress.
CONCLUSION
Palmer or no Palmer, Chelsea are moving strongly this season. They shouldn’t worry too much about Palmer’s absence for now, despite the injury being prolonged and the return dates looking like a worrying sign.
