Chelsea Interested in Argentine Talent

Chelsea FC

Chelsea F.C. are keen on signing the young Argentine talent, Nico Paz. Cesc Fàbregas recently referred to Nico Paz as a “special player” who must be allowed to express himself. Now, Let’s take a look at what’s known — and what remains uncertain.

Who is Argentine Talent, Nico Paz? Chelsea Interest

Nico Paz is an Argentine attacking midfield talent. He joined Como 1907 in Italy after youth time at Real Madrid. His performances in Serie A have drawn attention. He has shown strong attacking output and versatility. Fàbregas, who is coach at Como, said of him: “He’s a special player and he must be free to express himself.”  He also described him as a “very complete player” who sees goals and is “not afraid”. So the talent level is clearly high.

What’s the transfer situation?

The story goes like this:

Chelsea are reported to have interest in Paz. Some reports say that Chelsea want to “beat” Real Madrid to Paz’s signature. At the same time, Real Madrid have a buy-back clause for Paz (reported around €8-10 million) for upcoming summers.

Como, say they have no immediate intention to sell him. Fàbregas has publicly said the club aren’t going to let him go cheaply. Earlier in 2025, it was reported Chelsea were preparing a bid in the region of €30 million for him.

So while Chelsea interest is real, the transaction is far from straightforward.

Why Chelsea might want him?

Chelsea have good reason to be interested. Paz has shown maturity, versatility, and attacking output. He can play multiple roles, create chances, and score goals. Fàbregas has vouched for his upside: “I see a very, very big potential in him.”

For Chelsea, acquiring a young, talented attacking midfielder aligns with a strategy of investing in future assets. The fact that Paz is already getting game time in Serie A at a young age adds to his appeal.

The Obstacles and Caveats

There are some significant caveats:

Real Madrid’s buy-back clause means they retain a strong lever in the situation. Even if Chelsea secure an agreement with Como, Madrid could activate their clause.

Como appear determined to keep Paz and build around him, rather than sell him too early. Fàbregas has stated the club do not want to let him leave easily.

The existence of multiple interested clubs means competition could push the price up or complicate any deal. Even though Chelsea are interested, there is no public announcement yet of a completed bid or agreement.

As of now, these are reports and rumours rather than an official transfer. Paz himself has said he is “calm and focused” at Como amid speculation. The deal is not guaranteed.

My Take

If I were summarising it: yes, the story checks out. Chelsea are interested in Nico Paz, and Fàbregas did call him special. The facts align: his performances at Como, the buy-back clause, the club’s stance, the reported interest from Chelsea.

For Chelsea, it’s a wise move to monitor or pursue him, but they will need to navigate Real Madrid’s clause and Como’s reluctance to part with him. Paz himself seems happy at Como for now and in no rush.

What to watch next?

Will Chelsea submit a formal bid and what size?

Is Real Madrid going to activate their buy-back clause in upcoming summer?

Will Como negotiate a removal or modification of the clause to allow a higher fee?

What will Paz do: stay another year to develop or move?

Author’s Insight

The interest from Chelsea in Nico Paz is real. Cesc Fàbregas did indeed call him “special”. The player ticks many boxes. But the transfer is not yet done; there are layers of complexity. Chelsea may have a timing window, but so do other clubs — and Real Madrid hold a big say.

If Chelsea manage to land him, it could be a smart long-term signing. If not, it’s still interesting evidence of how clubs are placing big bets on young attacking talent.
